Fogey Likes: Jeffrey Steingarten

Kitchen gadgets are technology (even though TF will only write about them occasionally) and that’s all the excuse we need to direct Fogies far and wide to the writing of Jeffrey Steingarten.  Since 1989 he has been food critic for US Vogue, which might seem somewhat oxymoronic but even waifs have to eat something, sometime.  His essays have been collected into two books:  The Man Who Ate Everything and It Must Have Been Something I Ate.  In the Jan 2012 issue of US Vogue Jeffrey explores mail order grub via the Internet.  It’s US-centric but there are plenty of UK sites worth exploring, so go explore.  If you don’t have a Waitrose at the end of the street and Ocado laugh at your postcode it might be the best, or only, route to an elasticated waist-band.  There’s an interview with Jeffrey from New York Magazine here and his Wikipedia entry is here.  He also Tweets.
